Btw I think by giving up a bit of their individuality these people achieved their goals, including having fun, a lot better than yourself have. I mean between your eve corporation, CSM, and alliance tourney did you get anything done towards whatever plan you had?

To be quite honest "my plan" is to have fun playing a space opera game and have a decent community of good players to chat with in the evening and go out shooting things according to our alliance ideology when the mood takes us. Its not really much more complicated than that. Fact I get on well with our alliance members and we've had the opportunity to socialize and drink whiskey to the small hours together in iceland just makes it pretty good all round. Getting elected to the CSM was something that I said at Fanfest to be more or less a community service rather than anything else. Eventually most good long term players will have that opportunity and bring their own insight to the role.
I do think all the "serious business" of CAOD thesedays with multi-year-long hatreds and feuds and hackers and smacktalk and threadnaughting is very silly.
Truth to tell I think Goons, Pandemic, BOB and others have all gotten too much into personal hatred and institutional dislike and the old guard haters are indoctrinating younger players into the climate of loathing and continued vendetta and thats bad for the game.
Is it "serious business" for me to contront this? Not really, but I don't mind pointing it out and I certainly have the self confidence to speak my point of view unflustered by any nonsense from the peanut gallery.
So there you go. Sorry Goberth, I didn't have a bbq back in 2003 or anything like that. Just played the game and found I enjoyed it - still do.
So what you just said is that you are special because you log in and have fun with your mates (first paragraph), and everybody else is wrong because they are taking the internet too seriously (rest of post).

Before goons, these forums already were the dominant power's little circlejerk but you weren't complaining about it. I think you are just angry at goons.
